Both 300gsm and 365gsm cotton velvet fabrics are treated with fire retardant, which means they burn more slowely than regular fabrics, reducing the spread of fire.  Cotton velvet curtains that are 300 and 365gsm, comply to Building Code Austalia (BCA), AS1530 Part 2 and 3,and have been tested by Austraian Wool Testing Authority (AWTA).

The lighter duty 200gsm velveteen  and satin drapes are most cost effective and suitable for non-permanent applications including wedding decorations and stage backdrops.
